Rolls Royce Sweptail, A Car You Have Never Seen Before
Updated: Jan 29
COACH-BUILD. ONLY BY ROLLS‑ROYCE
Sweptail is a one-of-a-kind Rolls-Royce designed to meet the wishes of a single buyer. The Sweptail was revealed at the Concorso d'Eleganza automobile exhibition in Italy, and it is based on 1930s Rolls-Royce cars. While the car's front end may look similar, save for the big grille, the Sweptail's back end, which is designed to mimic a luxury superyacht, is what sets it apart.
Sweptail is the motor equivalent of Haute Couture, according to Giles Taylor, head of Rolls-Royce design. He claims that the buyer was completely involved in the creative process, choosing the subsequently customised fabric for him.
The unidentified gentleman (who we can only guess is either the Sultan of Brunei or Scrooge McDuck) came to Rolls-Royce to realise his idea of a one-off luxury motor automobile that would echo the elegance of coach-built Rolls-Royces from the 1920s and 1930s. He requested a two-door coupé with a wide panoramic glass roof.
Rolls-Royce Motor Cars offer Coachbuild, genuinely unique creation for individuals who cherish uniqueness in its purest form. Only Rolls-Royce is capable of realising such a lofty goal, summoning both history and destiny to create the purest expression of luxury. Coachbuild is a unique design partnership between patron and artisan.

The automobile, which is powered by a 6.75-litre V12 engine from the Phantom VII, has numerous unique design elements, including a mechanism that releases a bottle of champagne at the press of a button.
Rolls Royce Sweptail Inside
The interior, which is controlled by a concept that equates beauty with simplicity, is flooded with natural light thanks to an uninterrupted glass ceiling. The switchgear is kept to a minimum, allowing the finest materials to take centre stage. The light Moccasin and Dark Spice leathers of the seats, armrests, and fascia surround create visual and tactile contrasts with polished Macassar Ebony and open-pore Paldao.
Rolls Royce Sweptail Exterior
The grille is the largest of any Rolls-Royce from the contemporary period, machined from solid aluminium and hand-polished to a mirror sheen. Sweptail's distinct personality is defined by its beautiful shape. The roofline then accelerates as it rockets backwards from the leading edge of the windscreen, overshooting the boot lid edge to highlight the vehicle's length. Finally, the back pays homage to the world of racing yachts, which was essential in enlightening the customer.
Rolls Royce Sweptail Specs
A feature known as the Passarelle flows from the back edge of the windscreen to resolve in a teardrop as it links to the hat shelf to unite all interior volumes behind the occupants. The only apparent presence of this one-of-a-kind automobile's name, 'Sweptail,' is discretely debussed into the surface, exactly on the centre line.
The Macassar Ebony veneer used throughout the interior was handmade to complement the dashboard in the most contemporary way possible. The minimalist principle requires that just one control shows on the dashboard while all other hardware is discreetly moved and that the clock fits in smoothly. The face of this one-of-a-kind Rolls-Royce clock is composed of the thinnest Macassar veneer in the world, seemingly integrating the clock into the fascia.
The car's identification and registration number — 08 — are centred on the front and back of the vehicle and was milled from ingots of aluminium and manually polished.
A push-button mechanism in the centre console releases a cold bottle of vintage champagne from the year of the owner's birth, as well as two crystal flutes, which are ideally positioned for passengers to pick up. A full set of bespoke Sweptail baggage fits in the trunk among the wood panelling and polished metal rails.
Rolls Royce Costliest Car
This one-of-a-kind Rolls-Royce is the product of the meticulous efforts of the individuals who create a Rolls-Royce, which is one of the reasons why it costs a staggering $13 million (Rs 83.66 crore) (before taxes).
