Everything You Need To Know About Bmw Z4 M40i

Content

A BMW sports vehicle should give confident handling and a strong turbocharged engine, and the 2022 Z4 convertible does just that. But its upmarket cabin, which is comfortable enough to be used as a daily driver, is also appealing. The standard engine is a turbocharged four-cylinder, but the racier M40i variant comes with a twin-turbo inline-six. All Z4s are rear-wheel drive and come equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission that is equally at home in the city as it is on the highway. The handling isn't as crisp as a Porsche Boxster's, but it's close enough to be enjoyable on a tight route. The Z4 is only available as a softtop convertible, but if you want a hardtop coupe, the Toyota Supra, which was built alongside the BMW, offers a mechanically identical option.

The Z4 is nearly identical to last year's model, with the exception that ambient lighting is no

longer included and wireless smartphone charging is no longer an option. The Driving Assistance package was withdrawn from the Convenience and Premium packages and is now available as a separate option.

BMW Z4 Engine

Every 2022 Z4 comes equipped with an eight-speed automatic gearbox with Sport and Manual modes. Paddle shifters are also included on the steering wheel. That's correct: For the first time, the BMW Z4 does not come with a clutch pedal or a classic manual transmission. You won't be able to miss it. With rapid reflexes, snappy shifts, and smooth performance, the eight-speed automatic is one of the best automatics on the market. The sDrive30i is driven by BMW's superb turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, which produces 255 horsepower and lots of torque.

BMW Z4 Performance

The sDrive30i model hit 60 mph in 5.1 seconds. That's speedy, but it's not quite as quick as a Porsche Boxster with a manual transmission, which is still available. The M40i variant comes with a 382-hp twin-turbocharged inline-six engine for greater power. It's silky smooth and elegant, and it transforms the Z4 into a lightning-quick sports car with a 3.8-second 0-60 mph speed. That's faster than the Porsche Boxster S, which has 350 horsepower.

BMW Z4 Interior

The inside of the Z4 is quite high-quality, as is the case with all recent BMWs. It may even have the nicest interior in the class. It has high-end materials, superb panel fitting, and well-placed controls. When you're enjoying the Z4's performance, its seats are comfy with large bolsters to keep you in place. Even for people who are taller than six feet, there is more space inside than you may anticipate. Its fabric roof is thick and insulated, and it seals well. The BMW's interior is surprisingly silent when the top is up, with so little wind and road noise that it nearly seems like a Grand Touring coupe. It folds away in a few seconds at the touch of a button.

Even at high speeds, a wind blocker is required to prevent wind buffeting to a minimum while the top is down. There's also a lot of storage space within. A storage bin in the centre console and a felt-lined cubby to the left of the steering wheel are among the several storage bins found throughout the Z4's cabin. A netting shelf is also available behind the seats, as well as two large cupholders at the front. The trunk of the Z4 isn't enormous, at 10 cubic feet, but it'll fit enough baggage for two for a fast weekend road trip.

BMW Z4 Infotainment

The car comes with a large 10.3-inch touchscreen, navigation, and complementary Apple CarPlay integration; Android Auto is not available. The most recent version of BMW's iDrive technology is simple to operate and has attractive visuals. The system may also be operated through voice commands or a knob and buttons on the Z4's console. A USB connector and Bluetooth streaming music are also included, while SiriusXM satellite radio is an added cost.

BMW Z4 Features

The Z4 is fitted with power-adjustable sport seats with a memory system for the driver on the sDrive30i at its most basic base pricing. Dual-zone automatic climate control, a power-operated soft-top roof, push-button ignition, power-folding and heated side mirrors, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, rain-sensing windshield wipers, a rearview camera, a universal garage door opener, and safety features like forward collision warning, dynamic cruise control, and tire-pressure monitoring are just a few of the extra features. The M40i comes standard with 14-way power front seats with three-stage heating and a heated steering wheel. A head-up display, remote engine start, active blind-spot detection, lane-departure warning, park-distance control, and active cruise control are just a few of the features available. Ambient lighting is no longer a basic feature and is now only available as an option.

The design of the new Z4 Roadster, although not lacking in road presence, might take some getting used to. The iconic kidney grille is exceptionally large, evoking visions of the BMW Z8 from the 1970s. It's certainly more appealing than the drastically enlarged grille featured on the new 4 Series Coupe. With a small rump and well-integrated taillights, the Z4's rear three-quarter perspective is possibly its most appealing feature. Satin Aluminum exterior trim, LED headlights, and LED daytime running lights are standard on the basic model, which sits on 18-inch alloy wheels. The M40i adds Shadowline exterior styling, an aerodynamic package, and 18-inch M double-spoke wheels to the M35i's black soft-top roof. Both versions include dual exhaust outlets, although the M40i's are more aggressively designed, as is the basic M Sport package.

BMW Z4 Safety

BMW's lane-departure warning system comes standard, as is forward-collision warning and daytime pedestrian detection with city braking. On both Z4 variants, other driver-assistance technology is offered as an option. Active cruise control, active blind-spot recognition, rear-collision prevention, and rear cross-traffic warning are among the available features. The following are important safety features:

  • Forward-collision detection with pedestrian detection is standard.

  • Active cruise control is available.

  • Active blind-spot detection is available.
